This is a sneak peek at one of the coveted, new diner paintings in Brian Harvey’s upcoming solo exhibition, ‘When the Time Comes’, April 5 through May 4 in Toronto.
It’s titled Johnny’s, 2024, oil on panel, 30 x 60 inches. Harvey says the show explores “the slow slipping of time in the everyday.”
The back alley, the corner store and the diner are all re-occurring subjects.
“Layers of history in these overlooked spaces and fleeting moments, are brought into lasting focus, before time slips and these spaces change or disappear altogether,” he says in his artist statement for the show. Above, a commission from 2022, an example of his Diner works.

Well now I want to go get a burger at a diner …
I always find it amazing how artists pick a niche and then engage you so fully in every work.
These are wonderful. Memories.
I love that winter-snowy alley…
Wonderful work, and it’s all part of many of ours shared experiences, bringing to mind places and feelings.
That’s true, isn’t it — diners, alleys, other places are indeed shared experiences. Thanks.
