Andrew Salgado’s vibrantly saturated paintings depict fantastical settings inhabited by nude figures dramatically posing alongside symbolic objects and shapes.
The Canadian artist, based in Britain, is regarded as one of his generation’s leading figurative painters.
Inspired by a wide range of literary and art historical references, Salgado continuously experiments with various media — including oil, pastels, spray paint, and collage.
“While Salgado’s works are strongly characterized by their playful theatricality, they are also deeply introspective, presenting poetic musings on masculinity, identity, and emotional vulnerability,” his gallery says.
Salgado received a BFA from University of British Columbia in 2005 and a Master of Fine Art (Hons). Chelsea College of Art. London, England in 2009).
He has exhibited worldwide, with solo shows including London, New York, Tokyo, Miami, Toronto, Cape Town, Sydney, and throughout Europe. In 2017, Salgado was the youngest artist ever to receive a survey exhibition at The Canadian High Commission in London.

Very interesting. Are these all self portraits? I like the one where the man is sitting on the chair and he has butterflies flying around and daisies on the books. It’s very whimsical.
Whimsical is a great description for that painting. Thanks.
Almost like Adam and Eve… minus Eve.
