Harold “Doc” Edgerton has been called The Man Who Made Time Stand Still because of his high speed images of moving objects. His iconic photography is on exhibit at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia through August, 2017.

Edgerton is known for his pioneering contributions to the development and transformation of photography  through the use of the stroboscope (see a great explanation, here).

Also known as “Papa Flash,” he was a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From 1931 onwards, he developed strobes and used them to freeze objects in motion so that they could be captured on film by a camera.
