Elaine Rakowski’s large-scale landscape paintings and corresponding studies were inspired by the wind-swept beauty and visual splendour of the Torres del Paine in Patagonia, Chile. They’re on exhibition in the Toronto artist’s first solo show, at Art Square Gallery from May 7.
In creating this series, I experienced vast lighting changes, inclement weather and evanescent moments of photographic reference. Hundreds of images were used to create small studies, some of which were transformed into large-scale paintings – Elaine Rakowski
