This superb short film by Deepi Ahluwalia is a fascinating look at the streetwise artistic process of David Fredrik Moussallem (featured here before), and how he “carves” his deconstructed collage paintings from material collected from hoardings and dumpsters all over Toronto.
Moussallem is a “post-graffiti” painter
Moussallem is described as a “post-graffiti” painter, with his deconstructed carved collage paintings influenced by the street art movement. His background in Advertising, Graphic Design, and Typography heavily influence his approach and he describes his pieces as “revealing our differences and similarities in a raw and honest approach.”

This is so organic and street. It’s the voice of the neighborhood and the people. I love it.
What a great comment, all true. You so well expressed what made me feature this artist. Thank you!
My pleasure.
I really connected with hiss comments about how when a favored piece leaves the studio it leaves a hollow spot, and how starting over is hard. Wonderful, clear and inspirational explication of how and why he works. Great videography and music too. Thank you so much for posting this
I’m so glad to hear about the connection. I thought some of the same things . . . especially inspirational, videography and music. The film was nominated and has won quite a few international awards. Thank youi for your comments.
