Vancouver-based Paul Morstad is an artist to watch. Painter, illustrator, musician, bird watcher, cyclist, he draws inspiration from dreams, folk tales, scientific journals, mythology and the natural world. Morstad directed animated shorts for the National Film Board of Canada for 10 years in Montreal before returning to the West.
I’m very interested in science journals, cartography, historical texts, older botanical and zoological illustration. I’m a pretty heavy birdwatcher as well. Observation is key for me, and it keeps me constantly interested and occupied. – From Scout Vancouver magazine.
