From painting to writing, producing and directing feature films, and teaching students his craft, Jack Darcus – now in his 80s – is an institution in British Columbia and in the Canadian film industry. (Above: Shawinigan Lake Storm 4, 44 x 46 in)
His paintings have been exhibited in Vancouver, Eastern Canada, England, and France and are held in many collections in Canada, the United States, China, and Europe. He works principally in egg tempera, the medium he loves best.
In 1969, already established as a painter and art instructor, Darcus made his first film entitled Great Coups of History, an independent feature. Since then he has written, produced and directed eight Canadian feature films including Deserters (1984), Overnight (1984), and Silence (1997).
Darcus had also directed for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Atlantis Films of Toronto, and taught at the University of British Columbia, the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, and the Vancouver Film School.
