Canadian painter Ross Penhall is on exhibition through mid-April in California with his stylized landscapes of inspirational places across Canada, the US and Europe, including the California Coast, the Prairies and the Italian countryside. His personal story is fascinating, given he worked as a firefighter for almost three decades.
He is fascinated by the ways in which we bend nature to suit our needs–the paths we carve through it, the speed with which we traverse it, the manicured shapes we give it. Ross Penhall is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work is represented by Gallery Jones in Vancouver and Caldwell Snyder in the United States. Born in Vancouver, he attended art school at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and at Capilano College. He worked as a firefighter for almost 29 years and retired in 2010. He now paints full time at his studio in North Vancouver.
