Marina Nazarova’s anonymous women

The philosophy of Yoga is behind the stillness and detachment in the portraits of Marina Nazarova. Her practice revolves around painting anonymous female portraits set in abstract settings.

Nazarova is a Russian-Canadian artist currently based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She holds a BFA in Painting from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver, and studied at L’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

  1. Oh, unique and speaks quietly of women and our place in the world…. still …. in spite of..
    My take anyway. Love it.

  2. The hyper-realism, the serenity, the way an image so specific is also so universal… I think of Christopher Pratt (with no disrespect to either, and no suggestion she is anything other than entirely her own person)

    1. The Christopher Pratt style likeness is a good one, I think. Also your astute observation about it being so universal, exactly. Thank you

  3. Absolutely love these portraits, and have now started following her on Instagram. Thanks so much for introducing me to her work!

    1. You’re so welcome, happy you’ve found her. (And btw I can’t stop pointing people to your site. Absolutely fascinating culinary gems!)

    1. That’s an interesting point. There are a few different ones on her website, but you’re right they are all of a type.

Something to say?
