Canadian author and illustrator Jon Klassen won the prestigious Caldecott Medal from the American Library Association this week, the latest in a run of awards that honor his contemporary style.
The prizewinning This is Not My Hat – about a little fish who steals – is his second tale about head coverings. Klassen’s 2011 I Want My Hat Back won the library association’s Theodor S. Geisel award honoring books for beginning readers. (Below: the bear in the first hat story / click image for a video)
Klassen also won the Governor General’s Award in 2010 for his illustrations in Cat’s Night Out (below).
Klassen has gained international acclaim for his illustration and set work, including the design of films such as Neil Gaiman’s Coraline and Kung-Fu Panda with DreamWorks in California.
