Catherine Bolduc is a multi-faceted artist who sculpts, draws, paints and also creates memorable public art. Above: Les hauts et les bas de la déesse 1, a series from her residency at the Atelier de l’Ile in Val-David, a center dedicated to the art of printing. Various textiles and trimmings were inked and placed directly on the press bed. The monotypes were later enhanced with watercolors and nail polish.
She describes the work above, Mascara Mascarade as “a pile of textiles, hair and pearls tangled like lace and paths leading to tiny volcanoes deep inside. Watercolour, acrylic and nail polish on paper, about 4 1/2 by 5 ft” Bolduc says her works are “an invitation to experience phantasmagorical objects and spaces”
“Bolduc’s explorations share elements of the travel story or childhood recollections as well as of dreamscapes or hypnotic wanderings,” her artist statement says. “These works alternate between the domestic and the cosmic, the sublime and the apocalyptic.” (See many more like these on her works on paper page, here)
In Québec, her work has been presented at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Galerie de l’UQAM, and the Maison des arts de Laval. Abroad, her work has been viewed at the Toni Tapiès Gallery (Barcelona), GASP (Boston), and the Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin).
