Christmas inspires artists like these, who take sketchbook in hand to capture the season. Dominique Eichi was in Paris when this small cafe reminded her of the Christmas story. See why, here.

Skating is a big part of the holidays in cold climates. French artist Cassy1723 (on Flickr) draws a typical scene.

The season ultimately is a time for the blessings of home. Below, from Urban Sketchers Seattle.
As the season closes, vestiges of Christmas remain. Paperwhites are often gifts that bloom into the New Year. Below, how the bulbs grew in for Barbara Weeks.

Such nice photos of the holidays. I smiled when you added what looks like California. Right now, in Chicago, it’s cold, but no snow, so feels a bit like Las Vegas when I see people’s Xmas lights at night.
Yes, feels like early spring here because the wind has dropped and there’s also no snow. I will take it, because it will unquestionably be cold and snowy soon.
I agree, I would prefer these temps to continue to Spring!
Still no pictures.
also couldn’t get the pictures…
You two and probably lots of others. I’m not sure what happened there but I’m sending it to you by email.
Not getting the pictures.
Thank you – appreciate you letting me know.
What a lovely post, so nice to see someone champion the art of sketching and recording everyday life!
They would be the perfect kind of illustrations for a Lewis Carrol’s book. I love them.
That’s so true. Interesting observation. Thank you.
they are beautifull, I love how winter, and new year times are represented in arts, shop windows even in mugs of Starbucks. They give such a cozy feeling!
Exactly what I like about them, too. Stay cozy!
linda a fachada. Amei.
This is refreshing. I will go back and read it again!
Sooooooo gorgeous. They really give a feeling, don’t they!
Yes indeed, very bright and beautiful, agreed.
What do I think? I think it’s charming, unusual and I thank you for posting.
