Evgeni Koroliov says people have always been his prime source of inspiration and it shows in the hyper-realistic, translucent faces he creates. The artist, illustrator and graphic designer, based in Minsk, Belarus, is a prolific creator of these beautiful digital works.
Cinematographer Ju Toman explains the appeal:
You look at them, afraid to turn and inadvertently miss the wave of eyelashes or hand gesture . . . Inspired by classic films, the artist himself sometimes plays the role of a director putting his characters in a cinematic scene – because they are beautiful and ready to come to life – artist’s website
Koroliov’s sketching tools are graphite pencils, scanner, Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop, needed to transfer the drawing to digital format. He also often uses watercolour, acrylic and crayons for colour accents, he explained in an online interview.

Exactly what I thought when I first saw these. I first art blogged in 2011 and the digital art offerings at that stage were so basic compared with today. Also, I agree his work is exceptional.
