Kangiqsujuaq: Deep Colours

The rich and magical landscape surrounding Kangiqsujuaq, situated in a valley surrounded by majestic mountains, is the source of inspiration for artist Raymond Martin’s latest body of work.

This community is nestled in northern Québec, about 10 km from the Hudson Strait, with a population of 600-700.

ICEBERGS À MARÉE HAUTE 2019, oil on canvas, 18 x 24 in.

The area is abundant with natural beauty, mussels to harvest in the winter, and wildlife including belugas, polar bears, caribou, and gyrfalcons.

  1. This is beautiful, while it is simple, the colors are vibrant and and their is depth and movement in his paintings. I have friends who live in Alberta, they were just telling me that they had gone ice fishing not long ago, so I smiled at the last painting of the family fishing. Wonderful way to start the morning. Thanks
