Sketchbook Saturday – Beaches

It’s reasonably hard to come up with creative ways to sketch a beach, given that the actual sand-water strip is pretty much the same in all parts of the world. But the surroundings differ so widely that the sketcher’s interpretation makes all the difference. (Hamburg, Germany – Beach bar on the Elbe, above)

It’s the colors and perspective in this moody sketch of Patong Beach in Thailand (on Flicker, here)

Works from Urban Sketcher RĂłisĂn CurĂ©’s series Farewell to the French Riviera, told in sketched vignettes (here)

Clinton Beach Day, an annotated record of what artist Judi Nyerges experienced in Washington (see more here)

Illustrator & comic artist Roberto Lauciello collaged some of his people sketches from the beach on Behance, here.

A couple of Julia Khokhlova’s frantically creative Cyprus in the Summer sketches (above and below / more here)

And finally (below), a near Impressionistic take on Calabria, Italy’s seaside by Oksana Drachkovska, here.
