You probably know this haunting shot (left) by photographer Steve McCurry, taken at Nasir Bagh refugee camp in Pakistan. The 12-year-old girl had fled the mountains of Afghanistan after Soviet helicopters destroyed her village. The image was a cover of National Geographic in 1985, and has become one of the most famous contemporary photographs ever taken.
But you may not be familiar with the full scope of this celebrated photographer’s powerful work, or know that he has an inspiring blog right here on WordPress, full of stunning shots that span continents and cultures. The photos in this post are from a recent bio, interview and profile on ArtSpace, a favorite browsing spot of mine.

I love his work and his blog – the images and quotes are always so beautifully put together they make me cry almost every time.
Wow, I think sometimes we are so involved in our own world we forget there is beauty elsewhere as well.
Yes, I’ve seen some of his stuff – truly amazing. Didn’t know he had a blog here – cool – thanks!
Thanks for the update about Steve’s WP site, GAJ. I did not know that!
