Quick Hits: Overpainted

Celebrated German artist Gerhard Richter began painting over photographs in the mid-1980s, blurring the images as though seen through a camera lens or smudged with squeegees while the paint is still wet.

The works of Museum Visit – the largest series of Richter’s photo-paintings comprised of more than 200  individual images – are part of the exhibition Gerhard Richter: Overpainted Photographs, on at the Gagosian Gallery, London through June 8. (Below, installation view)
