Daryl Vocat – The Secret of the Midnight Shadow

Daryl Vocat opens at the Dunlop Gallery in Regina with his The Secret of the Midnight Shadow, illustrations lifted from Boy Scout manuals, manipulated, enlarged and redrawn life-size. Like a pop-up book come to life, it is the evolution of a smaller exhibition a number of years ago at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre.

In the forest lurks all manner of fears. We can’t see what lies ahead, nor behind. As we make our way through the night, shadows come alive, and we are enveloped by the unknown. It is in this hidden world where The Secret of the Midnight Shadow lurks. At night a different kind of creature makes the forest home. –Artist Statement

The boys claim this place as their own, haunting it with their presence. They learn to reconcile past experiences and beliefs with a world opening up to a multitude of potentialities, of ways of being in the world, of being together, of being community. –Artist Statement

  1. Yes, absolutely, almost bent. But it’s been around and popular for such a long time. It must be in the actual viewing live that so many people are captured.

Something to say?
