Sketchbook Saturday – David Habben’s “sketchbook so far”

If you don’t toot your own horn, it goeth untooted. – Joe R. Lansdale

These gems are from the “2023 sketchbook so far” of David (HABBENINK) Habben, an illustrator, artist, and educator based in Utah. His work has been featured in children’s books, magazines, and even on snowboards.

I have been wicked in my day, but I never thought a little girl like you would ever be able to melt me and end my wicked deeds – from Wicked

His current work includes Illustrator for the new Bridget Vanderpuff children’s books by Martin Stewart (see on Amazon) And he did the cover illustration for Oxford Children’s new edition of The Wizard of Oz (here) out in January.

They love those quotes

His followers love the quotes that Habben posts with images on Instagram, like this one by actress Octavia Spencer for the two-page sketch above:

You cannot live to please everyone else. You have to edify, educate and fulfill your own dreams and destiny, and hope that whatever your art is that you’re putting out there, if it’s received, great, I respect you for receiving it. If it’s not received, great, I respect you for not.

Octavia Spencer
We should invest in people not ideas. A good idea is often destroyed by bad people and good people can always make a bad idea better – Simon Sinek.
