Harry Enchin: Toronto Transformed

Harry Enchin merges images from the City of Toronto archives with contemporary shots of the same locale for a series of unique timescapes.  At the corner of King and Yonge (above), a Red Rocket streetcar noses past a news stand selling the defunct Toronto Evening Telegram.

Just as the “old” images were originally captured with photographic tools of the day, the “new” images are captured digitally. The viewer can easily see the changeover of decades; the montage photographs retain reference points of familiar landmarks, establishments, and roads. -From Toronto Transformed

  1. I can imagine what those workers are thinking – in 100 years, a douchebag is going to Photoshop me into his deep art, I can’t wait!

    1. I know, aren’t they? Especially for those of us here in Toronto. I worked a few doors from the corner of Yonge and King for years, and that one is quite gripping. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    1. I agree. I love the idea that he can actually find the historic photo in the Toronto archives, a job in itself I imagine. Thanks for stopping by.
